Kindergarten/1st Grade Montessori Room 102
This week, we've been learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. We talked about how he changed laws through peaceful ways. We watched part of a video entitled, "Our Friend Martin", which we will finish next week.
Word lists were sent home on Friday. First Graders have sight word lists to practice and Kindergarten students have lists with words to help them blend the letter sounds. When your child is ready to read a list, initial it and send it back to school to read to a teacher. We will put a star on the list if your child read it and then send home a new one.
We are going to the Shedd Aquarium on Tuesday, January 21. Students should wear uniform bottoms and any Clissold shirt. Please remember to bring a lunch in a disposable bag. Do not send money with your child; we will not be shopping.
Please make sure your child is reading nightly. The more you read, the better reader you will become! A blank copy of the weekly reading log can be found below.
To the right of the page, you will see a link to the school supplies requested. Every Friday I send home a newsletter to let you know what we worked on for the week and what's coming up the following week.
Please encourage independence in your child. Let your child make his own lunch, clean her room, help with chores around the house, etc. It may take a little longer, and it may not be perfect, but these are invaluable experiences for your child.
Thank you!Mrs. McKernin
